CONSIDERATE DOG WALKING

As we began to look into the impact of dog walking on the environment we were surprised to learn the impact dogs can have on local natural areas. Dog owners naturally gravitate to areas of beauty and want to take their dogs to these places. In doing so the dogs can have an impact on ground nesting birds for example.

Pagham Harbour Nature Reserve is a very sensitive area for ground nesting birds and as such dogs have to be kept under close control. Dogs and their owners want to enjoy wide open spaces but sometimes the worry of cattle and livestock can restrict the dog walk to a lead only experience. Chichester Secure Dog Park is set next to a nature reserve so we took the positive step to keep dogs from the ancient woodland whilst allowing the dogs to explore as much as possible off lead.

THE VARYING NEEDS OF DOG OWNERS

We have discovered that the needs of dog walkers varies based on the age of dogs (and their owners), accessibility, circumstances and breed of dog. For example we have a customer who has a dog to help with diabetes detection, it's difficult to let the dog off the lead as she doesn't mix well with other dogs. By using Chichester Secure Dog Park the family can have their walk in peace of mind that the dog can explore safely.

Equally there are many owners who want to spend quality time on their dog walk engaging with their dogs and improving recall skills for example. Of course many of us just enjoy being in the fresh air and take joy from seeing our beloved dogs panting away knowing they have had allot of fun.

FEELING SECURE AND IN CONTROL

From door to door when you take your dog on your dog walk you need to know you are in control at all times.  Dogs being dogs that can sometimes feel easier said than done.  Dogs need to learn but you need to feel you can teach them whilst reducing the risk of unpredictable behaviour.

So when we were designing Chichester Secure Dog Park the feedback we received was customers needed a safe way to transfer their dogs from the car to the secure dog walking field.  So with that in mind we created an airlock where you can safely drive in close the gate behind you and release your dog.  Our customers value this approach so they never have to worry about unforeseen escapes from the car.

I was not expecting that the impact of dog walking would be so impressive not only on the environment but also on the nearby local areas. You have described the significance of dog walking convincingly.
